York Residential (Y5)

This page will be our way of updating families on the arrangements for our York 2027 residential trip.  Letters and presentations are linked at the end of this page.

Year 5 Residential Trip to York 2027.  Either:

  • 26th and 27th May 2027 (Group 1 - 5A, 5B and 5C) or
  • 27th and 28th May 2027 (Group 2 - 5D and 5E)

1-night residential with 2 days of activity 

We are delighted to offer our Year 5 children the opportunity to take part in a residential trip to York.

The main focus of the trip will be to explore the history of York.   We have been working really hard for the last few months to plan the trip and ensure that it provides excellent value for families and the school.   This is the fourth year that we have run this trip.

Children will be staying at York YHA Centre.  Once there, children will use this as a base to:


We are aiming to travel to York by coach.  YHA Centre is close to the city with access through the paths at the side of the river.  At the centre, the children will sleep in en-suite dormitory-style rooms.  You can see these on the YHA website video and image gallery.

The trip will involve a lot of walking.  The kit list for the trip will be very basic (provisional kit list is below).  Good walking shoes or trainers will be essential.

The trip will be led by the Year 5 curriculum team and staffed with members of our staff team. 

The cost for the two days will be £130.

The cost includes:

  • Coach travel to York. We anticipate an early start from school.  Aim to leave at approximately 7.30 am.  That will require a 7.00 am arrival at school.
  • Overnight accommodation with dinner, breakfast and packed lunch for day 2 provided. Note that a packed lunch will be required for the first day.
  • York 2027 trip t-shirt that will be given to them two weeks before their day of departure.
  • Entry to all activities.
  • All relevant insurance.

  • Payment schedule will be via our parent/carer Compass App or platform:

    • Option 1 - Full payment of £130

      OR

    • Option 2 - Payment Plan as below, which will be automatically billed to your card.

      • £50 Deposit 30th September 2026
      • £20 2nd payment on 30th October 2026
      • £20 3rd payment on 30th November 2026
      • £20 4th payment on 30th December 2026
      • £20 Final payment on 30th January 2027

    We do not want any family unable to attend because of the cost.  If you need any support with the financial cost of the trip, please contact Mr Nathan or Mr Cassidy in confidence, so we can support you with the cost of the trip.  You can do this by calling us or emailing the school office.

Information relating to the trip will be given at a Year 5 family meeting, which will be held in the Upper Site school hall in October 2026. 

 Mr Cassidy will be sharing details of the trip with children in an assembly.  Children can attend the 5.30 pm meeting if required.   The presentation will also be uploaded at the bottom of this page. 

For your child to attend the trip, please complete the Compass York 2027 form that will be sent to you via email and pay a £50 deposit by 30th September 2026.

The provisional kit list is also included on this page.  Really important that all children have:

  • St George's T-shirt on for departure (we will provide this nearer the time)
  • Waterproof coat
  • Good walking shoes/trainers
  • Refillable water bottle.
