KS2 Teaching Assistant - SEND, Pastoral and Classroom Support

The governing body and leadership team of St George’s are seeking a committed professional to join our valued Teaching Assistant team. This will be a TA pastoral role which will include supporting specific children with SEND. We are seeking a somebody with a TA2 qualification or the willingness to undertake this. We would also welcome applications from unqualified teachers or ECT’s seeking more experience within a teaching environment. The candidate will be an excellent practitioner with a proven record in helping to promote excellent learning and outcomes for children. The majority of your work will be class based supporting classes, groups and individual pupils with SEND. In addition, some of your role will be made up of lunchtime provision support, our extra-curricular offer and pastoral work. Teaching opportunities and additional training will be available for the right candidate.

The successful applicant must have the following qualities:

  • A deep understanding of and passion for high quality education.
  • A commitment to inclusion and SEND support that enables children to learn well and thrive as learners.
  • Knowledge of how to support children with SEND
  • A commitment to professional learning and development (All TAs have at least 50 hours of CPD a year as part of their directed time).
  • Experience of supporting high quality classroom teaching including phonics and mastery-based mathematics.
  • Understanding of how to promote high quality oracy and language.
  • Ability to develop good relationships with children, colleagues and parents.
  • Understanding of how to apply positive behaviour management approaches.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to show initiative and apply common sense.
  • Experience of supporting assessment and planning for next steps in a child’s learning.

Qualifications & Training

  • Grade C or above at GCSE in Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Up to date safeguarding certificate/training.
  • NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent or a  willingness to undertake this

 

  • Evidence of relevant training to support learning and teaching.
  • SEND training.
  • Inclusion training.
  • Manual handling training
  • Teaching experience

Skills

&

Experience

  • Experience working in KS1 or KS2, supporting learning and teaching.
  • Experience of providing support for children with individual plan needs (learning, pastoral and health needs)
  • Experience of supporting high quality classroom teaching.
  • Recent experience of supporting children in KS2.
  • An understanding of mastery led mathematics teaching.
  • Experience of supporting children with phonics and early reading.
  • Experience of delivering interventions.

Knowledge

  • An understanding of how to enable children to learn well in classrooms.
  • Able to develop good relationships with children.
  • Able to develop professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Able to develop good relationships with parents.
  • Positive behaviour management.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to show initiative and apply common sense.
  • IT literate and able to use range of technology and Internet appropriately.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • Understanding of how to support children with SEND needs.
  • Creative capacity to support display and development of a positive school environment.

Salary 

Salary from £20641 to £20987 per year
