Year 6 Claremount Church
Year 6 had a brilliantly informative session at Claremount Church today. They met war veterans and Wallasey residents who were living in the village as children during WW2.
The war veteran that they met (John) was in the Navy delivering carrier ships on D-Day and shared his emotional recount of being on Sword Beach.
Beryl (who was a child experiencing WW2 at home in Wallasey) recounted collecting shrapnel from the streets and accidentally bringing an incendiary bomb home to show her dad!
Other sessions involved children creating their own poppies, learning about Flanders Field, rationing and Anne Frank.
As always, we are hugely grateful to the volunteers who run these workshops, our volunteer parents for supporting groups and our fantastic pupils who engaged so brilliantly at each station.
