Year 3 - PSHE visitor
On Tuesday, year three were lucky to have a visit from a parent and paramedic Shaun. He came in to deliver our first aid sessions and share his career with us.
He began by talking to us about what first aid is and how it could be defined. He then shared the three stages that all individuals must consider when performing first aid. He used the letters DRS to support us in remembering what to do:
D - Danger, check if there are any dangers around.
R - Response, check if there is a response from the person/patient.
S - Shout/send for help to the nearest person.
Shaun revealed the doll he had brought in to demonstrate how to apply a bandage in the event of a serious bleeding injury. The children practised how to apply a bandage and pressure to a wound. He also spoke to us about his job as a paramedic, what qualities you need to have and what aspects he most/least enjoyed.
Reminders:
Call 999 on a mobile phone or landline (if there is one) in the event of a serious incident that is life threatening. Look at an adults mobile to see how to make an emergency call as some phones have special buttons to press and it's important children know this.
Children to be aware of their address: house number and street name. We suggested this could be placed on the fridge so the children could access if required.
